Who we are

We are an international community of professional gemmologists, who first came together in the year 1926  during the BIBOA summit to establish the International Gemmological Conference of expert gemmologists, directors of gem testing laboratories and gemmologists of high calibre who can deliberate on technical issues of gemstone. Delegates and observers are sent official invitations as the attendance is strictly by invitation only.

What we do

The prime objective of the IGC is to exchange gemmological knowledge and experiences by organizing conferences every two years, alternately in a gemstone producing country and in a gemstone consuming country. IGC is now in its seventh decade and it can therefore be said that the International Gemmological Conference is the longest surviving gemmological conference to remain in its original format with invited delegates representing more than 34 countries.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT OUR CONFERENCE

Dr. Jayshree Panjikar

General Secretary, IGC

From 1952 when the 1st International Gemmological Conference (IGC) was held in Lugano we have come a long way and this year we shall have our 34th IGC 2015 in Vilnius. It is indeed a great legacy. We are proud of this continuous endeavor of research and deliberations on the sparkling science of gems. This year at the 34th IGC in Vilnius we shall again have a wonderful, fruitful and successful conference!

Dr. Arunas Kleismantas

Chairman of IGC 34

Since I joined IGC, I have been impressed by high level of intelligence and the pool of knowledge of this great gemmological community, which was build almost 90-ty years ago and still continues to grow. From Iceland to Japan; from Germany, Switzerland, and France to Tanzania; from India, Sri Lanka to Australia, USA, Canada and many more – the community’s in-depth research and awareness in science of gemmology shines through. We are extremely honored to welcome all of you to Lithuania, our country of Baltic Amber.
